Coming from a total different field (i.e., plant pathology), I found human population genetics is just fascinating in many aspects. As a lab technician, I have been involved in several projects. By sampling worldwide populations, using various genotyping techniques (e.g., SNaPshot, GeneChip, etc.), we are trying to dissect the patterns of genetic variation in human populations. I have also been involved in studying structural variants in the human genome by comparing different human genome assemblies (e.g. human reference genome vs Venter’s genome).
